Mailing Addresses in Flocknote
Verification π¬
What does it mean for an address to be verified? Great question! Our verification process compares a mailing address against the official USPS database to ensure it is accurate, standardized, and most importantly, deliverable! Say goodbye to returned mail and say hello to up-to-date, usable address data!
Easy Address Entry βοΈ
First, as members or admins begin to type in an address, as soon as Flocknote gets a strong match based on the info that was entered, our system will give autofill address suggestions. Members can continue typing in their address or to accept the autofill suggestion; they can hit Enter on their keyboard. Hitting Enter will save and add the autofill suggestion and verify the address info. This helps admins and members alike to avoid misspellings and keystroke errors.

Format Standardization βοΈ
Our system will also standardize the formatting for your addresses so that they are USPS compliant. In the example below, I entered 3547 Combahee Road. The smart system updated the address to 3547 Combahee Rd - the preferred formatting for USPS.
Additionally, we'll be gathering the four-digit+ plus zip code for each address entered. Those extra digits can help get discount bulk mailing rates for certain types of mailers!

Please note that this standardization will also apply to exisiting addresses so that your data has consistent address formatting across the board. Should admins/members wish to undo these standardization updates, they can do so by clicking the revert button shown here:

Unverified address π
Next, what if a member/admin enters an address that Flocknote isn't able to verify? There are a few reasons why Flocknote may not verify an address.
- Typos or tiny mistakes: a misspelled street, an incorrect ZIP code, or a digit off in the house number can stop the system from recognizing an address.
- Missing pieces: This can be a missing apartment or suite number or a missing directional like βNβ or βSW.β
- The address isnβt in the USPS records...yet! USPS has great records, but they aren't always perfect. Sometimes new houses or apartments haven't been added to their system yet, so we aren't able to verify them.
If we are not able to verify an address, an "Unverified" tag will appear above the address. Always double-check the address. If you know that the address is correct, feel free to leave it as is. (See additional admin steps below)
If edits are needed, feel free to make those. Click Save again to rerun the verification process.

Manually Verify π©βπ«
Admins can also manually verify an unverified address by clicking on the Unverified tag shown above the address. Once manually verified, they will recieve a unique "Admin Verified" tag.

Address History βͺ
Any changes to an address, including its verification, are saved in the address's History section (see below). To learn more about history tracking, check out our deep dive HERE.

Address Filters π
We also have a few filters to help you see which addresses have been verified or those that are unverified. You can run them at any time throughout the year, but they can be especially helpful before exporting addresses for a mail merge or sending our EOY tax summaries!
Check out the filters shown below to dive into the list of members with an address that "is verified" or "Is unverified." To learn more about our Filter and Bulk Action tool, check out our handy guide here!
