How do I move students from one grade to the next with groups?

Moving Members to Another Group

Are you gearing up for the next school or program year and getting ready to move students into their new classes? Are you overwhelmed by the idea of creating new groups, adding those same students one by one, or losing data? Not to worry - with our Filter and Bulk Action tool, moving those students is easy peasy!

Using the Filter and Bulk Action tool to Remove and Move Members:

Step 1: Remove members from the top grade level group (for example, 8th grade for K-8).

  • Navigate and click on the top grade level group for your classes (8th grade in this example).
  • Select the People tab.
  • Click on the purple Filter button.
  • Select a filter that will bring up all of the members. For example, Contact Info > Email Address > Has an Email Address > or > Does not have an Email Address.
  • Once those members are selected, click on the purple Actions button and select Remove from Group.
  • Those members will be removed from the group! This action cannot be undone - you can move those members to another group first before you remove or export them for historical records.

Step 2: Move the members who are advancing into the next grade level group (i.e. move the 7th-grade members to 8th grade)

  • Use the Filter button again (feel free to use that Contact Info > Email Address > Has an Email Address > or > Does not have an Email Addressfilter from above) to gather everyone in that group.
  • Click the purple Actions button again. This time, select Add to Another Group and choose the group that you just removed members from (in this example, 8th grade).

Step 3:

  • Confirm those members were added to the next grade level group and then go back to step 1 to remove those members from their old grade level group. Be careful to ensure that you have moved your members to a new group before removing them as this action cannot be undone.

Step 4

  • Last step! Repeat steps 1-3 until all of your members are in the correct groups.
