How do I send a note to part of a group?

Do you have a note to send but need to exclude someone (ahem... maybe it's the Pastor's birthday)? Does your note only apply to a certain temporary list of people? Do you want to send a thank-you note to all your generous donors? By using the Filter and Bulk Action tool, you can send a note to a filtered list in just a few clicks - no need to create a group or add recipients to a note one by one!

Here's a simple example. We need to send an email to the Sons of Thunder (James and John Zebedee), but not our whole group. To do this, select the purple Filter icon and click Personal Info > Last Name > Search Last Name, then enter the name you're looking for:

From there, select the Actions button and choose whether to Send an Email or Text to your filtered list. It's that easy!

Let's dive deeper with another example, where we reach out to members who have not filled out their address:

First, I opened up the Benedactor Brunch group. Then, after filtering for those who have not filled out their address, I clicked the Actions button and selected "Send email to filtered list".

That will open up a draft in the email note composer. Notice that there is a new icon at the top of the note that says Filtered. This indicates that you are sending a note to a filtered group!

I'm going to draft an email that includes a Smart Button and the Ask the Member tool to request that these members fill out their addresses! Sending to filters makes collecting data easier than ever, and I'll have these addresses up to date in no time.

Once your note is sent, you'll also notice the Filtered icon in Note Analytics and through the sent Notes page.

When you send out a filtered note from a group, those who are not the target audience of the filter but are regular members of the group will not see that note. So, if you are planning a surprise for someone, using the filter tool is a great way to ensure that it's kept a secret!

Last but not least, you can find the notes you sent to filtered lists in the group where you ran your filter. For example, this "We're missing your address!" note was sent to only those in the Benefactor Brunch group who did not have an address. Even still, you'll see that note in the my notes section of the Benefactor Brunch group.
